People searchers like Whitepages can be both useful and alarming
Hi, reporters! I recently attended a webinar on digital security. One thing the Freedom of the Press Foundation recommended was to regularly wipe yourself off of what I call “people searchers.”
These are sites like Whitepages, Pipl, or various URLs like “find public records dot com.” Whitepages is an especially good one - or bad, depending on your perspective. It searches publicly available records to return names, addresses, relatives and other contact information for folks all over the US.
